Well that cool southerly today certainly reminded us why we are heading north for the winter!
Today Jura left the harbour headed for Southport. Yay our adventure has begun!
Peter along with family friend Graham dropped the mooring lines around 11.30am. The forecast was for a freshening southerly breeze and they anticipate arriving off Southport in about 24 hours.
The kids enjoyed waving them off and running up Muttonbird Island to catch a glimpse of their home for the next 5 odd months.
Today was not without a little drama. We arrived down on the boat to find some water in the bilge- very unusual and disturbing. Where had this water come from??
Peter taste tested, it was fresh water... well that's good at least. Turns out it had been raining and we soon found where all this water had come from.... a hatch (window) was not properly closed :( so the boat had a slightly smelly and very wet mattress & carpet. Of course it was still raining so we couldn't pop it out in the sun to dry and now the guys are offshore so I hate to think what it will be like in a few days.
We decided that this wasn't the trip we wanted to introduce Mia and Joel to offshore cruising so the kids and I will be driving to meet the boat in QLD- somewhere between Southport and Moreton Bay.
The preparations for the trip progressed pretty well this week. It's no small job!
Peter laid a fantastic new timber look cockpit floor.
I was on shopping duty- we have a lot of food on board! Not nearly 6 months worth but the plan was to pack what we could now whilst we had access to a car because shopping gets that much harder when you need to carry it all back from the supermarket!
We also finished the tiling and grouting of our new ensuite bathroom at the house. The plumber and glass installer will finish the job in the coming weeks.
So it has been a very busy couple of months both on the boat and at home and we look forward to getting back into the cruising life.
