Unfortunately our time at lady Musgrave got cut short. We woke up yesterday morning to a changed weather forecast that was predicting winds to increase to up to 30knots over the next 4 days. Not wanting to be sitting in a potentially very rough anchorage ( a hobby horsing boat, rocking enough to be dipping its bow under with each rock) if the seas started coming over the reef and being boat bound as a result, we made the decision to move back to a more protected anchorage back on the mainland, the nearest being Pancake Creek.
Although a late start we made great time over the 35nm averaging just over 8 knots arriving perfectly with the high tide to move into the more protected inner anchorage. Our trip finished with our first sighting of a whale for the season, putting on a performance of aerial antics for us. Both children are now coping with the moves well, playing on their DS's, reading, eating, and looking about.
Although windy this afternoon the water is perfectly smooth and as a result sleep came easily. Kylie was a little alarmed, however, when anchoring up, as the water is once again so clear it can be hard to judge depth when out of practice like we are. Even form the deck when finally set we could still see the anchor buried in the sand. (5m deep water, with 25m of chain out)
So after a morning spent ashore exploring and some ball games on the low tide sand bar next to the boat we have had an afternoon of school work and games.
